Po�te pr�cieux de l'�cole de Voiture, Ren� Le Pays voyagea en France (Savoie), Espagne, Angleterre et Hollande, avant de devenir directeur des gabelles de Provence et du Dauphin�. Charmant volume, tr�s finement reli� d'�poque. A part une relation d'un voyage au Pi�mont (lettre XLI), l'ouvrage contient une lettre sur la vall�e de Chamonix dat�e du 16 mai 1669, intitul�e ?Bizarre peinture de quelques montagnes de Savoye? L'ouvrage constitue selon Perret un ?rare ?incunable? concernant la vall�e de Chamonix?.?Cependant depuis quinze jours j'ai mont� & descendu les plus dangereuses montagnes de Savoye. ?L'indication de Perret selon laquelle notre �dition d'Amsterdam, serait la premi�re, est erron�e. Celle-ci est en effet la deuxi�me �dition portant sur la page de titre l'indication ?suivant la copie de Paris? (imprim� en 1672). The earliest literary reference to its (Savoie) glaciers.
