Acquired from the estate of film director Roy Ward Baker ("A Night to Remember," 1958; "Quatermass and the Pit," 1967; "Vampire Lovers," 1970; "Scars of Dracula," 1970, as well as TV episodes of "The Saint," "The Avengers," etc.) in November, 2010, via Richard Thornton Books, Winchmore Hill, London. Inscribed to Baker (though the recipient is not named): "We didn't make it exactly the way we wanted to -- but by Christ, we made it," and signed "Jimmy." James Henry Kinmel Sangster, screenwriter, producer, director and novelist, was born 1927 and died 2011. He was a key figure in the revival of Hammer Films in the late 1950s and through the 1960s, writing "The Curse of Frankenstein" (1957), "Dracula" (1958), "The Mummy" (1959) and two dozen other Hammer horror films before moving to America, where he wrote for "The Six Million Dollar Man," "Kolchak: The Night Stalker," "Ironside," "Wonder Woman," etc. Sangster wrote eight novels, and a couple of novelizations of his own screenplays, besides his film and television work. Three books were murder mysteries published from 1986-88 featuring former Scotland Yard investigator James Reed. Two spy thrillers published 1968-70 starring British Intelligence agent Katy Touchfeather, whose cover job was . . . airline stewardess. Last but not least he wrote two half-spy/half-mystery novels, one published in 1967, the other in 1968, starring ex-British Intelligence operative turned private investigator John Smith, the first being "private i". (The second and final John Smith spy thriller was "Foreign Exchange.") "private i" was adapted as an American TV movie titled "The Spy Killer" in 1969. "The Spy Killer," which starred Robert Horton, Sebastian Cabot, and the delectable Jill St. John, was directed, of course, by . . . Roy Ward Baker. His signed copy, 183 pp. Seller Inventory # 012045
