SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR. 16 pages including covers. Stitch-bound paperback booklet: H 22.2cm x L 14.6cm. Toning and some soiling to leaves with some edge-wear and creased corners; two mild vertical creases to booklet evidencing past folding. Author's ink inscription "Compliments of the author" at top of front cover along with two-line pencil inscription "Marmaduke Shannon VBurg | Compliments of" at center (Marmaduke Shannon, 1805-1888, was a Vicksburg, Mississippi newspaper journalist and printer/publisher). Galloway graduated from Ole Miss at age eighteen in 1868 and was promptly licensed to preach in the Methodist Episcopal Church, South and ordained in December 1868. After various Mississippi appointments Galloway was assigned to Vicksburg from 1877 to 1881 during which time he became a temperance advocate. Galloway was elected bishop in May 1886 at just 36 years old. Although undated, this Galloway tract opens with "More than a year ago, Judge Tourjee . . . wrote an article for the North American Review entitled, 'Aaron's Rod in Politics.'" Said article by Albion W. Tourgee appeared in the February 1881 issue thereby likely placing the date of this tract circa 1882-1883 which corresponds to Galloway's 1881-1883 assignment to a Jackson, Mississippi church (by 1884 Galloway was in Brookhaven). OCLC does not locate any institutional holdings.…
