Reviews

Count Giuseppe Panza di Biumo, an Italian industrialist, has assembled one of the world's finest collections of contemporary art. This book is essentially a catalog of the collectiona truly representative sampling of abstract, conceptual, and minimalist art, sculpture, and photography that serves as an inventory of the eclectic and probing artistic visions of the 1960s and 1970s. The work shown here often stretches mainstream notions of "art." In 1984, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles acquired 80 of the collection's 500 works, prompting Los Angeles art critic Christopher Knight's conversational interview with Panza, included here. Well organized, with fine illustrations; highly recommended. David Bryant, Belleville P.L., N.J.
