274p. INSCRIBED BY JONES TO FELLOW NYT EDITOR. A hardcover book in very good condition with dustjacket. Edges foxed, but otherwise clean and tight. The jacket is intact, with only a hint of wear at the head of the spine. Anthology of articles from the New York Times that highlight American culture shifts in the mid-20th century. Illustrated with black and white photographs. This copy is signed by co-editor David Jones with a warm inscription to NYT editor Lawrence Hauck. Larry Hauck (1912-2000) started at the Times as a copy editor in 1948. By the 1960s he had worked his way up to assistant news editor, serving mainly as the overnight and weekend editor. He was promoted to full editor in 1976 and retired the following year.
