Art of Cameroon. With a Catalog of the Gebauer Collection of Cameroon Art at the Portland Art Museum and The Metropolitan Museum of Art (Inscribed by Clara Gebauer)

SIGNED by Paul Gebauer's wife, Clara. 375pp. Octavo [23 cm] Black and white illustrated wraps. With a couple of miniscule closed tears to the edges of the front wrap. Paul and Clara Gebauer assembled a superb collection of Cameroonian art, acquired during their years in Cameroon, where they served as missionaries. The Gebauers knew personally many of the individuals who owned or made the works in the Collection. They witnessed particular masks, guardian figures, stools, and other objects actually functioning in Cameroon society. Every piece in their collection reveals not only the knowledge, taste, and interest of the Gebauers but their love. Inscribed by Clara Gebauer on the half title: "To____ / in memory of Paul / Clara.".
