Autograph Letter Signed 1853 Note Mailed from San Juan Bautista to Monterey Concerning Possible Sale of Land Folded stampless letter measures 10.5 x 8.5 inches. Previous folds plus remnant of wax seal with slight loss of paper from wax seal but no loss of content. Minor chipping to edges; pin holes at several folds. Bold manuscript cancel plus address. Letter mailed at 5 cent rate. Good condition. Mailed three years after California statehood with very early San Juan [Bautista] manuscript cancel, Sept. 21, 1853. Previous cataloger claims this is second oldest known manuscript cancel from San Juan, but we have been unable to confirm. Letter from a Mrs. Massoull of San Juan, to Mr. and Mrs. Pyborn regarding the sale of land. Sadly, we've been unable to trace either surname in relation to this letter. Ripe for further research.
