Item description from seller

2 pages (front and back), 9 x 7.25 inches, Bolton, January 3, 1825. In this letter, Frederick recommends a military appointment that would have great consequences for the United Kingdom, in part: "I beg to offer you, but I fully concur in opinion.to the propriety of recommending Sir Combermere for the Chief command in the East Indies." Note: as a result of this letter, Combermere, who at the time was Commander-in-Chief, Ireland, was transferred to India (1826) where he besieged and took Bharatpur. Twenty-two years earlier, this fort had defied the genius of General Gerard Lake and was deemed impregnable. For this service, his last in the field, he was created Viscount Combermere. Several folds; very good(+) condition. Second son of George III; Commander-in-Chief of the British Army.
