The Bird Book - Alma's Story is the story of a woman terrifically affected by a series of events, which eventually caused Alma to decide she could no longer engage in the community of people. She was only willing to observe, draw, and enjoy the birds outside her home in eastern North Dakota. Looking at her from the vantage point of her sisters, certainly clarified how she coped with the social anxiety she seemed to exhibit. Travel with the author through the homes of the birds with whom she became the best of friends. She engaged with them when she would not, or could not engage with humans. She lived a long, satisfying life because of her enjoyment and fascination for the birds.
