The Bird with a Broken Wing

While in her prime, DeeAnn Brandon was confronted with divorce, her daughter’s death, and near-fatal flashbacks of childhood rape. In order to heal she departed from psychology’s current fads and psychiatry’s crippling drug cures to forge her own path in the wilderness of the mind.

The Bird with a Broken Wing takes you on an unforgettable journey of the heart. Out of the conflicting influences of the Old West and the New, the dramatic story of her turbulent struggle for identity emerges. The daughter of a Colorado sheep rancher and potato farmer, DeeAnn’s heart is in the land. The great-great-granddaughter of pioneers, she’s raised on stories about visionaries who risked everything and suffered tragic losses to achieve their dreams. A resilient idealist, it seems there isn’t anything she can’t survive, until she’s in her prime. Instead of soaring toward her dreams, the bird with a broken wing hovers in the dark alleys of her soul, her noble visions shriveling to pleas for sanity. Yet a child’s prayer to see heaven on earth won’t let her give up the fight. She writes to tap truths worth living for. And she asks questions that take you deep into her roots, both on earth and heaven, to find surprising answers. They are her answers, but they compel you to find their own. The writing of this book is the triumphant culmination of years of work. In the author’s words, "The Bird with a Broken Wing is my song."

A keen observer of human nature and a champion of ranchers and farmers, DeeAnn Brandon writes from her home in Bozeman, Montana, where she lives with her husband Curt.

As a freelance writer Brandon’s clients have included world class sculptor Floyd DeWitt, nationally recognized painters Jim Wantulok and Rocky Hawkins, and jewelry designer Sam Ferraro, among other artists, both in and out of state. She has written for various businesses in Bozeman and has published poetry and articles.

A Speech major, Brandon attended the University of California at Los Angeles, received her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of California, Fullerton, her elementary teaching credential at Cal Poly in Pomona, California, and her Montana teaching credential at Montana State University. She has taught elementary through adult.

When DeeAnn isn’t writing or taking walks with her husband, she loves to play racquetball, swim, and paint with oils. She and Curt have four grown children, a new granddaughter, and a daughter in heaven.

The Bird with a Broken Wing is her first published book. In the works is her next book, Riding Wild Horses, No Hands, which is also non-fiction.
