[Contraception and Family Planning] Photo Archive of 4 original photographs of the researchers involved with the invention of the oral contraceptive pill. Sizes range from 6" x 4" to 8.5" x 11." Three are original silver gelatin black and white press photographs while one is a signed color photograph. The black-and-white photographs are dated between 1932 and 1974. The 1932 press photo is of Gregory Pincus holding an immobile rabbit, taken during his time at Harvard, where he first made national headlines after fertilizing rabbits in-vitro. A second press photographs shows Pincus holding eggs. The public responded poorly, nicknaming him "Dr. Frankenstein," and this reputation would follow him until the early 1950s, when Planned Parenthood founder Margeret Sanger approached him with an idea for a new contraceptive drug. After conducting research alongside Dr. M.C. Chang, whose original Press photo is also included here, the birth control pill was finally approved by the FDA. Archive also includes an autographed color photo of Carl Djerassi, who synthesized norethisterone, the first highly active progestin analogue that was effective when taken by mouth. All 4 Photographs in very good condition. Seller Inventory # 19010
