Signed and inscribed by Roth on half-title: "To D--- P---, with best wishes, Henry Roth, Albq [Albuquerque] July 1990." Roth's Depression-era novel met with a lukewarm reception when it was originally published in 1934, but enjoyed a critical resurgence beginning with its reprinting in the '60s. The coming-of-age story of a young Jewish immigrant to New York, "Call It Sleep" is now regarded as a modern masterpiece.
