The Societe des artistes decorateurs was a collective established in 1901 to promote French design and decorative arts. Its founding members were influential in the development and promotion of the Art Deco style; Maurice Bokanowski served as president at the time of Code Civil's publication. In this work, Hemard presents the official text of the sections of the French Civil Code dealing with family law with witty, and often mildly erotic, color pochoir illustrations. A prolific artist, illustrator, designer and author, Hemard is best-known for his humorously illustrated editions of serious non-fiction books.
