xxii, 353 pp. Octavo. Hardcover in original pictorial dust jacket. Cream photo illustrated cloth with black and gilt title on spine. The unclipped dust jacket with crease on the front right corner, wear on corners of spine, and one 7mm closed tear on back bottom edge. Inscription on front end paper, which reads "Xmas 1965 For June Malyre(?) yours for ______ best wishes, Irving Layton." This uncommon edition is in overall very good condition. This rare presentation copy inscribed, of the first edition of his collected poems, given to a friend in the year of publication. Some of the poems include: Elegy for Marilyn Monroe, The Way the World Ends, Whatever Else Poetry Is Freedom, and On the Assassination of President Kennedy. Layton was controversial during his lifetime for his somewhat bombastic personality but achieved popular and critical success for his poetry, winning a Governor General's Award and being nominated for the Nobel Prize for Literature. This is an offprint of the scholarly journal Queen's Quartlery Canadian review, published winter 1966. It contains the six lined poem and is inscribed and signed by Layton.
