Second edition. Hardback. unique association A very interesting association copy owned by the Rev. E. Milner Barry, who appears to have once been the curate of a vicar mentioned in the book. There is a hand-written, signed letter pasted on to the clipped endpaper from the editor and close friend of Thackeray, Jane Octavia Brookfield, in which she apologises that many imprudent references to people should have been left out, and she trusts that the letter should not be seen by the vicars widow. Many relevant news-clippings to prelims. Small quarto. ix, 189pp. Original brown cloth with gilt titles. Covers slightly worn with slight chipping at spine ends, occasional light foxing, otherwise very good.
