Item description from seller

[Includes a letter to the Next of Kin of John H. Bennett, a soldier killed in Welz, Germany by Colonel Philip D. Dwyer.] Softcover. Good binding and cover. Shelf wear. Tears to folded map. Dwyer ends the letter with, "No one desires to remember wars, but it would be far better to be able to recall some of the horrors than to forget and make the same mistake again." Philip Dwyer graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Class of 1923. He earned his first Silver Star while serving with his parent unit, the 29th Infantry Division, and earned a second award while serving in support of the 30th Infantry Division. He retired in 1954 as a U.S. Army Colonel.
