Octavo, [twelve volumes]. Full red leather, title in gilt on spines with decorative gilt embellishments on spines and covers. Wear at head of the spines of various volumes, archival touchup at head of the spine on four volumes. Top edges gilt. Appears mostly unread. Untrimmed fore-edge. Panels lightly bowed on some volumes. Limitation page in Volume I notes that this is copy number 632, prepared for J. Milton Trainer. Includes signed limitation page from John Wesley Hill, the Chancellor of Lincoln Memorial University. (Monaghan 1471) An attractive set. The Complete Works of Abraham Lincoln, first published in 1894, was edited and compiled by President Lincoln's private secretaries, John G. Nicolay and John Hay. The 1894 edition was the first scholarly attempt to collect and publish the complete writings of Lincoln. The New and Enlarged Complete Works of Abraham Lincoln was issued in 1905 by the Francis D. Tandy Company. This edition from 1926, The Sponsors' Edition, was published using the plates from the New and Enlarged work, with an introduction by the Chancellor of Lincoln Memorial University.
