Hard Cover. Geoffrey Marshall (1929-2003) was a leading constitutional theorist in the United Kingdom. He was elected a fellow and tutor in Politics at The Queen's College, Oxford in 1957 and stayed until 1999. He was known for his works addressing the British constitution, the controls on government and the rights of the citizen. This work was published as part of the Clarendon Law Series. It examines the basic ideas underlying the Anglo-American system of constitutional government: the State, Law and Convention, Sovereignty, Separation of Powers, Judicial Review, Equality, Liberty, and Public Order. It also considers major civil rights, especially freedom or speech and assembly and equality before the law. Written from a British perspective, this is very topical to the current state of political discourse in the United States. Signed and inscribed by the author on the front flyleaf. Black cloth covered boards with title in gilt to spine. Orange and white dust jacket with title in black to front and spine panels. Jacket is price-clipped. Minor rubbing and soiling to jacket.
