This book follows private investigator Kinsey Millhone as she takes on one of her toughest cases. Bobby Callahan, a young man who was brutally attacked and left with injuries and partial amnesia, hires Kinsey to find out who tried to kill him. Three days later, Bobby is killed in a second automobile accident. Millhone, who never welshes on a deal, takes it upon herself to find the killer.
