An original ink drawing of this historic (now demolished) Parisian landmark Cour Du Dragon by Ian Strang (1886 - 1952) on white laid paper 350 mm x 230 mm, signed. An old label on the back of the frame is inscribed by the artist, "Ian Strang. Early chalk drawing. The Cour Du Dragon Paris. A small drypoint was made from this subject, where the archway, entering the court from the Rue De Rennes is decorated with an 18th century dragon." Strang was a student at the Academie Julian, Paris, from 1906 to 1908. Stylistically, the drawing is similar to the contemporary mood of Nevinson's Paris drypoints at a time in the 1920's, when both Nevinson and Strang were in Paris. Whistler portrayed the same location in his lithographs, 'The Forge' and 'The Smith. Passage Du Dragon", before the area was demolished in the 1930's. Mounted with conservation board and framed. Excellent original condition.
