315pp. This book was purchased from the site of Maisy Battery which is inland from the Normandy Invasion Beaches which it shelled during the landings. The person running the day to day management of the site. He is the son of the author, and was able to confirm the signing was done by his father. There were no records to confirm the location or existence of this battery, other than an awareness on D-Day that German Artillery fire had come from the approximate location. It was Gary Sterne, the father, who was convinced that the Battery did exist. he searched and when he found the location, he bought the land and started excavating. He also did the research of the actions that took place in that area, speaking to American troops who fought over the ground. So many first hand accounts. When I visited it was partially uncovered, but there was much more to come. But it definitely was the location of the 'missing' German D-Day battery. It was this one man's persistence which let to it being found. Fascinating reading about this 'lost gun battery' and its effect of the D-Day landings. A must read for a student of the D-Day landings and the Atlantic Wall. Only read once, by me. Really excellent condition, a couple of spots to the cut edges of the page. Cover unmarked. All my books are scanned or photographed so you can see what you are buying. My pricing is inclusive of UK postage via Royal Mail 48 tracked and packaging. Additional postal costs for overseas postage, including the new import tax to EU Member Countries.…
