6 3/4 x 5 inches, octavo stationary, folded once. Autograph presentation inscription by Walter Crane, noted British artist and illustrator, with original pen-and-ink drawing, dated 1902. On printed "13 Hollan St: Kensington W." stationary with diving bird, in red-brown at top left. Dated by Crane at top, "London. Dec: 29, 1902." Inscribed in ink beneath Craneís printed address stamp: ìHerrn Karl Bick und Otto Paul Trocca zur Erinnerung. Danke sehr f r ein Portr?t und Souvenir. Tanti saluti!î and signed ìWalter Craneî in a characteristic encircled flourish. The inscription is in German, with an Italian closing, likely addressed to continental correspondents. Below, Crane adds a small original pen-and-ink drawing in his distinctive linear style: a stylized long-legged bird, with plume-like tail (a crane/cockerel hybrid, a familiar motif in his work), presents an object to two figures, echoing the inscriptionís theme of exchange and remembrance. A pleasing and personal presentation, combining inscription and original drawing.
