They Died by Pearse’s Side is the first book to bring together the stories of these Volunteers. It tells the story of how each of them died and provides an photograph and location of each grave.
Over sixty known Volunteers were killed in action during the Easter Week 1916. There were a number of others who were killed that have not been identified. Others died from the effect of wounds they received in battle or from the conditions of imprisonment after the surrender.
The names of these Volunteers are now largely forgotten and their graves known to only a few.
