Late in World War II and just before the Battle of the Bulge, German Corporals David Kohn and Maximilian Unger were assigned to a secret mission as part of a plan to recapture Antwerp. Captured by the Canadians, the two corporals were returned to the Germans after the war, and the Canadians also supplied the unarmed Germans with guns for their execution. The author explores whether David and Max were sacrificial sheep in the covert dealings of once hostile governments.
