Synopsis
For over three years I tested and proved the ideas and principles found in this book. The result? A road map. The thread that weaves throughout the book is my story of recovering from a serious motorcycle accident that happened just as I hit my stride at 50 years old. When the road I was traveling on came to an abrupt end, I had no other choice but to take the detour presented to me. I learned quickly that if I was going to have any kind of life, I had to learn how to deal with adversity, change and grow, find hope when it was lost, and deal with the loss that had invaded my life. While I sat on my recliner and waited for each surgery to occur, I read, listened, watched, and reflected on the stories of others called to suffer and have their lives rerouted. There on my recliner, I was mentored by Nelson Mandela, Amy Mullins, Viktor E. Frankl, Roald Amundsen, Matt Long, Joni Erickson, Henry Cloud, to name just a few. What I learned, I lived, put into action, then wrote it down. What I learned and wrote I give to you. You won't be the same after reading this book if you come with a desire to learn, grow and change. Detours can be messy and filled with uncertainty, but they don't have to be traveled alone. I want to walk the journey with you and share the tools and tips you'll need to find strength and grit. Detours are not easy but with a little help, they are not impossible to endure but can become opportunities for growth and greater impact.
