Pp. 36, 7 hand-tipped tinted plates (including frontispiece portrait), the title page printed in brown & black; tall demy 8vo; half dark brown morocco, lettered and ruled in gilt, brown cloth boards, a trifle marked; uncut; several marks from the plate glue (as usual), a little light foxing; Rigby, Adelaide, 1964. One of 1001 copies on handmade paper, signed by Hugh Anderson. McLaren 3. *The Feud was Adam Lindsay Gordon's first separate publication, originally issued in 1864 under the pseudonym A. Lindsay. It was published at Mount Gambier as a sixteen page pamphlet, and was inspired by Noel Paton's engraved illustrations to the 1860 edition (published in Glasgow for the members of the Royal Association for the Promotion of the Fine Arts in Scotland) of the traditional ballad The Dowie Dens O'Yarrow. This centenary edition includes photographic reproductions of Paton's illustrations, notes by Hugh Anderson, and the complete text of The Dowie Dens O'Yarrow. It was printed on the same press as the original pamphlet.
