Frances Young was professor of Theology at the University of Birmingham for 34 years. Her theological memoir, *Face to Face* reflects on many classical themes from the perspective of life with her son, Arthur, who lived with profound disabilities. *Suffering Presence* was a collection of theological essays on bioethics published by Hauerwas in 1986. With several essay on 'the mentally handicapped' it was a seminal text in the nascent field of disability theology. Annotated throughout with Hauerwas's marginal markings. Hauerwas's own signature above the inscription on the half-title. Pp. 235-238 bound upside down.
