Quarter buff cloth and brown papered sides. Paper title label on spine is scuffed; corners a bit bumped. Extra illustration tipped to verso of frontispiece, else internally clean. Illustrated with several attractive blockprints: frontispiece, title page, chapter headpieces and ending vignettes. v, [3], 168, [4] p. A collection of essays on miscellaneous topics by Sir Edward Grey. The pieces include his reflections on the pleasure of reading, the enjoyment of nature, recreation as told through his personal recollections, public life (as statesman, Minister of Parliament, etc.), Fallodon's water fowl, fly fishing, and an essay on Wordsworth's autobiographical poem 'The Prelude'. Each had been previously published, except ''The Fly-Fisherman, '' written especially for this volume. Sir Edward Grey, 1st Viscount Grey of Fallodon (1862-1933), was a British Liberal statesman, Britain's longest serving foreign secretary, 1905-1916, and the main force behind the United Kingdom's foreign policy during this period including the First World War.
