Original full calf, Very Good, spine labels missing, old internal cloth mends to hinges, rubbed edges, the book plate of John A. MacDonald front paste down with smaller label below noting "Sir John A. MacDonald Premier of Canada". SIGNED AND INSCRIBED by MacDonald 3 times at front end page, again at Title page, rear end page and rear paste down, for a total of six signatures, befitting a boy of ten practicing writing his name. Laid in are old newspaper clippings, one with photo showing the title page of this book, photo credit by Percy Ghent, author and noted Canadian collector. Sir John Alexander MacDonald (Jan. 11, 1815 -June 6, 1891) was Canada's First Prime Minister, serving from 1867 to 1873 and again from 1878 until his death in 1891. Considered the dominant figure of the Canadian Confederation, he aided in completing the Pacific railway and in his later years he dealt with the North-West rebellion.An important piece of Canadian history.
