Synopsis
                  This is the story and riveting adventure of Daniel Olin Jones (1907-1986), afisherman, singer, and praying country church deacon who practiced an 'oletime religion that had a powerful impact on his family and the ruralcommunity in Northern Neck, Virginia. He overcame an impoverished earlylife, social and economic difficulties for a young Black man in the early1900s in a small southern town, through systematic hard work, discipline,and tremendous faith. Notwithstanding a seventh grade formal education,Deacon Jones engaged in a continuous course of self-study-books, magazines,newspapers, pamphlets, religious conferences, etc. that were availableduring that time. He became a highly respected and beloved prayer-warriorwho organized and spearheaded the Northern Neck Deacons Union in Virginia.

                  *About the Author* *Mary J. Day*, the only daughter of the late Daniel O. and Vera S. Jones, grew up and was educated in rural Northumberland County, Virginia. Ms. Day received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education from Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia, in 1963, and earned a Master of Education degree from Loyola College in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1976. She holds a Maryland State Advanced Professional Certificate, and is certified as a Secondary Principal, Secondary Supervisor, and Business Educator. Known as a child advocate, Ms. Day is described by her peers as an outstanding educator. * *Her experience spans forty-four years in secondary and postsecondary education. She has received many awards for her accomplishments, leadership, and community involvement. Ms. Day resides with her husband, Robert Day, Sr., in Columbia, Maryland. She is the mother of two sons—Robert Jr. and Timothy; and has five grandchildren—Ryan, Rachel, Andrew, Emmanuel, and Chasity.
