One page, 8" x 10.5", February 26, 1982. Apollo Astronaut Don Eisele writes a personal and detailed letter to his friend Deke Slayton upon his retirement from NASA. In part: "I wanted to write and say "Congratulations" on completing one of the most outstanding careers ever in the history of aviation and space flight. By the way, there is life after NASA, and it can be pretty good!" Eisele served as command module pilot for the Apollo 7 mission in 1968. His friend and fellow Astronaut, Deke Slayton overcame the odds of a medical diagnosis that took him off flight duty and returned after several years of working for the betterment of NASA in Astronaut and Flight operations. He is one of the largely unsung heroes of the early days of manned space flight. Signed by Eisele at close. Light toning and original fold marks.
