Stevenson III on the half title page. Inscription reads "To Adlai + Nancy, In appreciation for all you do. Patti Simon / 6-17-04." Paul Simon (1928-2003) was an Illinois Democrat who served in the House of Representatives from 1975 to 1985 and in the Senate from 1985 to 1997. Simon wrote twenty-two books throughout his career, and was known for his traditional horn-rimmed glasses and bow tie. In a tribute to Simon, former President Bill Clinton said he was "beyond question, one of the most remarkable public servants I ever knew." Fifty-Two Simple Ways to Make a Difference was published posthumously, resulting in a copy signed by Simon's wife. Adlai Stevenson III (1930-2021) was a Democratic politician who represented Illinois in the Senate from 1970 to 1981. Stevenson's father, Adlai Stevenson II, was influenced by Simon's early writings for the Troy Tribune to stand against gambling and government corruption in Illinois.

About the Author

The late Paul Simon was director of the Public Policy Institute at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and authored nearly 20 books. A member of the ELCA, Simon served in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives and was a candidate for the Democratic party presidential nomination in 1988.
