FIRST CITY, A SAGA OF SERVICE - Years of research have gone into this fine book, which is much more than just another regimental history, because here is the story of the eight Kaffir wars that raged from 1835 to 1853 and were, from the point of view of the Settlers, one continuous campaign with sporadic outbreaks of peace. Everyone interested in our past history will surely welcome this account of hardship and heroism in days that have gone.
