Synopsis

Caesar Gaspard, a labor organizer for Tejano and Mexican farm workers is beaten and lynched during a labor strike in the Rio Grande Valley, Texas. From the noose, he vows to avenge his death and with the aid of Mescalito and a 150-year-old Mexican cowboy spirit, his prayers set in motion an intricate pattern of encounters. Paul and David, two hippies living in the Haight-Ashbury during the Summer of Love, decide to leave San Francisco and travel to Texas. They plan to counsel young men to fight the draft and the Vietnam War, but instead, David becomes involved in a war being waged against local Tejanos. During a peyote trip, Paul is guided to Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, where he falls in love with a beautiful young woman who happens to be Caesar Gaspard's daughter. Life unfolds and plans change when a Navy jet crashes into the woods nearby and Caesar receives the revenge he had been seeking.
