A charming tale by Alfred Austin celebratory of gardens and gardening.Alfred Austin was an English poet, Poet Laureate in 1896, mostly known for his prose idylls celebrating nature, such as the present.Illustrated in text in black and white.Inscribed by the author to front free endpaper 'To Mrs. Farnham from the author' dated 1895. With a letter by the author loosely inserted addressed to his friend. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally very smart with minor shelf wear, lightly bumped to head and tail of spine and extremities, sunned to spine and boards. Author's inscription to front free endpaper, with author's handwritten letter loosely inserted. Internally, firmly bound. Light foxing scattered to the leaves.
