Add to basketJENKINS BRIGADE was armed with Enfield Rifles on July 3 when it participated in the Gettysburg Battle. By oversight, the brigade brought only about ten rounds of ammunition. While it lasted, the men were engaged many on foot as sharpshooters around and in front of Rummel Barn and outhouses. Jenkins cavalry was on the field for all three days of the battle, but was posted on the flanks, seeing only limited action until July 3. Gen. Albert Jenkins himself was wounded by Federal artillery on July 3 and was succeeded by Col. M.J. Ferguson. A marker at Gettysburg acknowledges the brigade s service. Offering a 4 ¾ x 7 ½ order for one day s rations. Hd Div. Jenkins Brigade March 8th, 1863. "By order of the Brig. Genl Commanding you will draw and issue to the Troops of this Brigade One day s Rations official. Signed R.S. Simms, A.A. Genl "The Regimental Commissaries will draw one day s Rations and have all the Rations booked.that the men have three (3) day s cooked rations (in Haversacks) from tomorrow morning." Folds, toning.
