Inscribed copy of this fictional portrait -- based on extensive in-country, combat-zone reporting -- of the U.S. Army special forces unit distinguished by their Green Berets that fought at the vanguard of counter-insurgency operations during the Vietnam War. The work took a prominent place in the cultural division within the U.S. over the merits and course of the Vietnam War when actor John Wayne commandeered the book as source material for his famously pro-military film, "The Green Berets" released at the height of the war. The film was scorned and reviled by the anti-war movement but reaped huge ticket sales among the silent majority who packet movie theaters to watch Wayne's Col. Mike Kirby lead his troops to the last frame and the music of "The Ballad of the Green Berets." Inscribed by Robin Moore to a previous owner on the front endpaper. Green buckram, 341 pages.
