A description of the representative forms of the principles taxonomic groups of invertebrates in the Museum (the precursor of the Boston Science Museum). Hardcover in Very Good condition, 8vo, pages: v,[i],[3]-505. Brown cloth with spine titles and rule in gold, index. Light wear, minor discoloration to block edges, one inch damage to front inner hinge (insect??, see photo), prior owner's embossed stamp on back end-paper. Inscribed by the author on the front end-paper. Bookseller accession no.: 16537. Jennie Marie Arms (1852-1938) was a Vermont-born scientist, historian, and teacher who studied at MIT (1877-79, degree not completed). Much of her work was with insects, including (along with her mentor, Alpheus Hyatt) the first classification and description of mayflies. In 1897 she married George Sheldon (1818-1916), farmer, historian, state senator, author of "History of Deerfield".
