Ravenna, Ohio. August 6, 1817., 1817. Very good. - A manuscript record of a real estate transaction between Gideon Granger and Henry Remsen, 12-1/4 inches high by 7-1/2 inches wide. Ira Hudson, the Clerk of the Court of Common Pleas, certifies that the sale by Gideon Granger to Henry Remsen of the northwest parcel of land in the Connecticut Western Reserve in the County of Portage Ohio was valid. The sale was originally made before a local Justice of the Peace on April 30, 1817 and was subject to validation by a higher authority before it could be recorded in the public land books. Hudson's validation is dated August 6, 1817 and is signed twice, first as Recorder followed by his signature & stamped seal as Clerk of the Court of Common Pleas. Folded horizontally with a tiny tear to the top edge. Very good. Gideon Granger (1767-1822) was a staunch supporter of Thomas Jefferson and published numerous pamphlets defending Jeffersonian principles. Jefferson appointed Granger Postmaster General in November 1801. After leaving office, he built a homestead in Canandaigua, New York which is now a museum, The Granger Homestead and Carriage Museum.…
