This Is India

Octavo, black boards and green cloth lettered in black; unclipped pictorial dust jacket. First edition, presumed second printing. A presentation copy, inscribed by Rau to Lois and Philip Jessup: "For Lois & Phil - Please come back to India soon! Santha," on the half-title page. Lois Walcott Kellogg Jessup worked tirelessly for the American Friends Service Committee, the U.S. Children's Bureau (preparing reports on children in Europe during Second World War, and the United Nations, advocating for women's rights around the world. She married Philip C. Jessup, a judge on the International Court of Justice and veteran U. S. diplomat, credited with playing a major role in ending the Soviet blockade of West Berlin. A wonderful presentation, linking the iconic diplomat Jessup with the distinguished Indian-born American author Rau, whose uncle served as India's representative to the United Nations.
