An American classic in full red leather SIGNED by the first African-American author to win the National Book Award (1953), Ralph Ellison. Author's first book. A socially-significant work by an author with a large intellect and important viewpoint. A handsome dark red leather volume with gold-gilt cover designs and page edges with bound-in silk bookmark. In fine condition. Very light rippling on the top edge in the gilt that is original to the publisher, barely noticeable. Includes the 22-page "Notes from the Editors." The 50th Anniversary of the publication of INVISIBLE MAN was featured on PBS' critically-acclaimed American Masters program early in 2002 thus demonstrating the importance of this book in our American literary culture. Ellison's highly-anticipated second novel was not completed prior to his death; that book, JUNETEENTH, was completed at the request of his widow by Ellison's literary executor, Professor John Callahan of Lewis and Clark College, and published by Random House in 1999. A beautiful copy. Seller Inventory # 2348
