Note is a little rough along the right hand edge, apparently where separated from a second leaf. Both have some tiny corner creases. Folded for mailing. ; Handwritten note and handwritten letter, both signed J. Keble Bell. The note is on the letterhead The Illustrated London News and Sketch Limited, 198 Strand, W. C. It is dated Nov. 7th, 1899, and is to Grant Richards Esq. Publisher [in its entirety]: "Dear Sir, I should like to call on you with regard to a private matter of business. Will you kindly give me an appointment? Faithfully yours, J. Keble Bell, Assistant Editor of the 'Sketch'". The letter is on the decorated letterhead of The Sketch Published By The Illustrated London News & Sketch Limited, 198 Strand, London, W. C. It is dated Oct. 11, 1900, and is also to Grant Richards: "For the last four months I have been writing a weekly article in the 'Sketch' under the heading of the 'Social Jester'. The other I received a letter from one of the directors of Messrs. Simpkin, Marshall Ltd. (Mr. A. E. Miles .) suggesting, quite voluntarily, that fifteen or twenty of these articles in a book should have a good sale." John Keble Bell sometimes wrote under the pseudonym of Keble Howard. …
