About the Author

Sara is an outspoken advocate for the awareness and early detection of breast cancer. After her own diagnosis and lumpectomy in her late 20s, Sara went on to earn the title of "Ms. Colorado USA 1999." She then competed in the national pageant, where she placed in the top 10 and was recognized with the National Community Service award.

Sara is on the National Speakers Bureaus of the American Cancer Society and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Since 1997, she has served on Komen's Special Events Committee for the Denver Chapter. She received BMW's Drive for the Cure "Heroine Award" in recognition of her volunteerism on behalf of breast cancer awareness.

In 1999, she was invited by Harpo Productions to run with "Team Oprah" in Milwaukee, Wisconsin's first-ever Race for the Cure. She has also been the subject of numerous television and print media stories.

Sara is a Colorado native where she currently lives with her family and dog, Buddy.
