Fifth edition, as stated in the copyright-page cataloging information. Oblong hardcover, 64 pages, printed in Canada. Color and special effects by Gayle Deal; line drawings by Joseph V. Cioffi. Signed by author Michael Sterns on the front preliminary page, with a handwritten "Peace," elaborate signature flourishes, and a colorful butterfly sticker personally added by the author. An independently published, richly illustrated children's fantasy inspired by the Kokopelli figure of the American Southwest. The story follows Kokopelli's encounter with a beautiful butterfly held captive in an ornate cage and his decision to free it, setting in motion a remarkable transformation. Through this narrative, Sterns explores compassion, environmental stewardship, respect for living creatures, tolerance, and peaceful conflict resolution. The book features vivid, full-color artwork, striking landscape illustrations, and an unusually wide format designed to encourage shared reading between parents and children. The combination of Joseph V. Cioffi's line drawings and Gayle Deal's color and special effects gives the work a distinctive turn-of-the-millennium visual character. Condition: Near Fine. Glossy pictorial hardcover boards display bright, colorful artwork with light visible surface rubbing and minor handling wear, particularly toward the edges and corners. The illustrated pages appear clean and vibrant, with no obvious tears or significant markings in the photographed examples. A small spot of discoloration is visible near the lower edge of the signed preliminary page. The binding appears sound. No dust jacket present; the pictorial boards appear to be the intended finished binding. The author's signature and butterfly sticker are preserved on the same opening page, creating an attractive, personalized presentation.…
