About this Item
This book of poems was Ellen Gilchrist's first published book. The first edition was printed in 1979 by Lost Roads. This edition was printed a year later with a declaration by Gilchrist that she allowed changes in the first edition which she later regretted and that this edition represents the form in which she wished her poems to appear. The first edition is rare and this one is rarer still. This copy is a discard from the Fayetteville, Arkansas library which normally would not be of much interest. This copy, however, was inscribed by Gilchrist to her hometown library. Clearly, the Fayetteville library did not value a gift from Fayetteville's best-known writer, since they stamped "Discard" in red right over her inscription. The book is also stapled and taped at the spine , rubbed, somewhat stained, and bears the usual card pocket and abuse expected in library books. An interesting copy of Gilchrist's rarest book.
