Signed by Gerald Green on the third free end paper, with tissue guard. First Edition Thus."The Last Angry Man"; octavo, 701 pp., illustrations by Fred W. Thomas; full, rich, brown leather, gilt decorated and imprinted, spine panels rib divided, All Edges Gilt, russet moire endpapers, brown satin page-marker ribbon. New; pristine. Franklin's as-always lavish binding, in a limited signed 1981 edition of the 1956 Green novel about a crusty, dedicated neighborhood doctor who becomes the subject of a television documentary by a struggling producer. The novel was the basis for the 1959 film of the same name, which was nominated for 2 Academy Awards and starred Paul Muni, David Wayne, Betsy Palmer, Billy Dee Williams, Godfrey Cambridge and others. The paper, typeface, leather, gilt and illustration is classic Franklin Library, doing what they did best. Bright, tight and a visual treat. With the author's 'A Special Message to Subscribers from Gerald Green', written in 1978 in Stamford, CT. A very desirable example for the shelf. The laid-in Notes are scarce. See all scans. L91.
