Synopsis
The Layman's Gospel Harmony is a revolutionary harmonized chronology of the four Christian Gospels in a unique, highly visualized graphic format that reveals the super-narrative time line undergirding the four Gospel accounts. The result demonstrates the realistic, plausible historic time line of Christ's life and ministry. Stunning discoveries of the historic reality of the birth narrative, Christ's 3.5 year ministry, and the chronology of the Passion Week are revealed. In a verse-by-verse, systematic exploration, this book resolves the many supposed conflicts, debates and mysteries in the Gospels to convincingly demonstrate them as unified, accurate, historically reliable accounts -- exactly what you would expect of divinely-inspired writings which report historic events.
The complete texts of the four Gospels are arranged in an eye-pleasing serial parallel format with informative margin notes that respects the sacred Gospel texts while placing them in a harmonized chronology. An extended commentary section follows the texts in the same chronological order. The book includes seventy of the author's original holy land maps, information charts, and graphic time lines to help the reader visualize the convincingly plausible time line reported in the Gospels. Printed margin tabs help readers navigate between the gospel texts and related commentary. The entire book was designed by the author as an extension of the devotional act of researching and writing it. Even the book's inside cover, with end flaps, opens to a 20 inch wide historic map charting Christ's last ascent from Jericho to Jerusalem for the Passion Week.
The Layman's Gospel Harmony is the inspirational, faith-affirming companion text to The Layman's Gospel Harmony Chart. It is intended for Gospel students of all denominations, for bible study groups, church adult education curriculum, and for the spiritually curious.
About the Author
Finding himself at a spiritual crossroads, author Nathaniel Huntting Sherrill, a writer, speaker, book designer, and independent Christian publisher, was compelled to make a five-year, full time devotional study of the Gospels. Sherrill realized there was a great need in mainstream Christian education for a devotionally oriented book that celebrated and demonstrated the Gospels as accurate histories of Christ's life, teaching, and ministry. The result of this research is The Layman's Gospel Harmony (the book) and The Layman's Gospel Harmony Chart, a revolutionary wall chart display of the four harmonized Gospels on a unified chronological time line. He serves on the Adult Christian Formation committee of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Westlake Village, California, lectures on his gospel research, and is developing additional projects intended to promote gospel literacy in the global Christian community.
The Foreword to The Layman's Gospel Harmony has been co-written by the Pastors of Sherrill's home church. Senior Pastor Richard H. Thompson has been a Pastor for over 30 years, with advanced degrees from Fuller Seminary and San Franciso Theological Seminary. Steven B. Miller, Associate Pastor for Discipleship, has advanced degrees from Princeton Theological Seminary and Fuller Seminary. Both men serve the congregation of Westminster Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) in Westlake Village, California, a gathering place, filled with God's grace, helping the faithful to become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ..
