Letter

Typed letter signed "Aaron Copland" to New York City Mayor John Lindsay, octavo, on personal letterhead; Peekskill, New York; November 17, 1970; approximately 75 words; unpublished. "I am writing you to acknowledge with much appreciation the award of the Handel Medallion of the City of New York on the occasion of my seventieth birthday. It was particularly gratifying to a citizen born in Brooklyn to have been singled out in this fashion. In presenting it, your Deputy, Dore Schary, said many kind things, some of which I hope were true. Once again, I wish to acknowledge the gesture of the City in presenting the award to me through your good offices." A superb letter commemorating the Brooklyn-born composer's seventieth birthday. Professionally matted and framed, ideal of display.
