Tissue guarded portraits; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 471 pages; [SIGNED w MLS] 1881 Houghton, Mifflin & Co. Stout HC in original dark green cloth lettered brightly in gilt to spine. 3rd edition, revised. Warmly inscribed by the author on the frist blank page to influential publisher, philanthropist and owner of the Philadelphioa Public Ledges, George W. Childs. Laid in at front ia one page manuscript letter from the author to Childs, dated January 30, 1882. Book soundly bound with gilt top edge bright. Damp exposre to the top and bottom front corners leaves a mild tide mark in the corner margins, darker to the tissue guarded plates. Silverfish predation to the cloth emulsion over the front edges of the boards. Still a solid and bright copy, signed and with MLS and noteworthy association. VG-; Signed by Author.
