Octavo (23cm); blue cloth-covered boards with titling stamped in gilt on spine; blue topstain; dustjacket; [viii],182,[2]pp. Publisher's bookplate is signed by Redfield and attached to front endpaper. This copy is from the library of noted poet, translator, and anthropologist Nathaniel Tarn (1928-2024), with his pictorial bookplate to front pastedown and his pencilled notes throughout text. Modest shelf-wear and -soil; Very Good. Dustwrapper, unclipped (priced $4.00), lightly tanned, with modest shelf-wear, and tiny chips and tears to extremities; Very Good. First published in Sweden as Vol. 5 of the Gottesman Lectures, Uppsala University, it is republished here as part of the Comparative Studies of Cultures and Civilizations series.
